Cheryl McKeller - Media Studies

The name is Cheryl Mckeller and I'm 19 years old. I'm currently studying a BTEC National in Media Studies at North West Kent College.

From this course I hope to gain an insight and enough knowledge of the industry itself into how the media is run.

I'm highly interested in pursuing a career in either becoming a researcher for television programmes or an editor for woman's magazines such as Woman; Woman's own or Pick me up. Or maybe a fashion magazine like Elle magazine. To maintain a career in either, I know I need to work my way up from the bottom and work hard as I know this industry is extremely competitive. April this year I have work experience with a woman's magazine which should be great experience for me.

I did consider university as an option, but I couldn't decide on a course to study and I didn't want to carry on working part time in retail, so going straight into work seems a better option for me.

In the next 5 years I hope to have achieved a lot, maybe to have become a junior editor or even just a writer for one of the pages in a magazine.

I would say my qualities would be that I work well with others as well as on my own; I've had quite a bit of experience working as a team as my current job consists with team work. I'm the type of person who likes to get their views and opinions across when possible; I'm a friendly person and I try to get on with everyone. My low points would be that I'm not always confident in everything I do so it sometimes takes me awhile to get something right. And achieving my goals in life are my aims. This is because without goals I don't have any targets to set myself.
