Rachel Jones - Media StudiesAbout me. My name is Rachel Jones, and I'm in my second year studying BTEC National Media at North West Kent College. My favourite lessons are film studies and the print-based lessons, since my biggest passion is creative writing, and a big dream of mine would be to pursue a career involved with writing. I'm hoping to go to university once college has ended, and I know I definitely want to study a creative and professional writing course. In the future, once I have graduated from university, I would search for a career in journalism, writing for a newspaper or magazine, but my biggest ambition would be to get the stories and poems I write published. A lot of what I have written is blogged on Myspace, and one of my Myspace friends is Libertine Magazine, which focuses on poets and lyricists, and when they start putting together their next issue, I'm going to send them a few of my poems in the hope of getting some published. Another interest of mine is old films, preferably made before 1935, which comes in handy with my film studies. I enjoy them much more than many modern films, and my favourite stars from that era are the Marx Brothers, Marlene Dietrich, and Harold Lloyd. I extremely enjoy college, but like I said, I am more interested in the print-based lessons than technical. I'm hard working and strive to create the best work, especially written work, that I can. I'm not the most self-confident of people, but most things I want to say and ideas I want to get across often come through in my writing. I'd describe my writing as very descriptive, poetic, and full of imagery, inspired by my idol, Paul Banks, and his song lyrics. Another influence in the world of creative writing is my favourite book of all time, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I'm gradually becoming interested in script-writing for television and/or film, but stories and poems, will always come first. Writing is my life, and the thought of one day making a career out of it would be the ultimate accomplishment for myself.
